Playtonic Games has announced Yooka-Laylee, its spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, will be available as a boxed product alongside the previously announced digital version.
“As we get closer to launch and our plans take final form, we’re finally able to clarify many of your most burning inquiries and requests,” the developer said. “One such query we’re delighted to tackle today is the ever-booming call for a boxed version of Yooka-Laylee. Do we have plans for a boxed release? Today we can confirm that the answer is, yes!
“We’re delighted to be able to offer Yooka-Laylee in both digital and boxed flavours in time for the game’s launch in Q1 2017. As we speak, our business badgers are busily burrowing away on an initiative that will allow Kickstarter backers to upgrade their digital pledge to a physical version, if they choose to do so. We’re not ready to share the exact details just yet, but very soon you should be able to stick your head in the badger hole and look for yourself.
Yooka-Laylee was crowdfunded on Kickstarter and raised over $3.2 million. The game is set for release on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC in Q1 2017. Playtonic recently released a new trailer for the game, revealing it will feature a cameo from Shovel Knight, the star of Yacht Club Games’ acclaimed 2D side-scrolling platformer.
GameSpot got to speak to Playtonic Games and get hands-on with the game at Gamescom 2016.
